Greet the Day
At three AM the sparrow breaks silence,
herald of a long expected royal.
Skies still grainy with sleep, the glow
of twilight presses against the confining
line of a silhouette horizon.
Darkness strives in vain
with impending dawn;
the sun cracks the portals of night,
reaching heavenward her arms of gold
to quench the light of the stars.
Did I dream? Or did e’en I slumber?
Awake, soul, break forth into melody!
Sing welcome; welcome, morning.

"Did I dream? Or did e'en I sleep?"I like it. =)
Thanks, Laura. I wrote this at lunch break to see if I still had it in me. I was quite pleased with it until I saw Kara's most recent . . . then I thought "Why do I even bother?"Hehe. Okay, so I only thought that for about five seconds.
lol. That's one way to get me to stop writing poetry. I don't want to hear any of that. I like this but…3 am? Whether someone goes to bed late or gets up early, that is one hour that should be slept through. =) Despite insomnia, very nice.
Kara, what's wrong with 3 AM (not that I've ever been up that late)?Chris, great poem! The second to last line, "Awake, soul, break forth into melody!" feels slightly awkward. There are some really great phrases in here. I think my favorite is:"Skies still grainy with sleep, the glow of twilight presses against the confining line of a silhouette horizon."You should try writing cheesy limericks about Platonism. Talk about awkward.
Well, Kara, I wouldn't want to see you stop writing . . . so not another word of it! By the way, the sparrows really do start singing at 3am, almost on the dot. It's quite amazing really.Pete . . . Haha! You would like the most cerebral and quantifiable line the best. I shall leave the limerick to you. I haven't the skill or inclination . . . or awkwardness.
3am is when the sparrows are all getting their morning coffee. It's crazy hour for them. I've spent far too many nights telekinetically asking them to stop yapping. They never listen.btw, I actually really liked the "Awake, soul,…" line. It reminded me of how I felt when I woke up the past couple of days. I see nothing awkward about that.
I do believe that would be "telepathically," if you're just telling them. Telekinesis is when you physically move objects with the mind.
ah, yes. of course. telepathy.
